Exercise technique

resistance band foot external rotation

Sit on a bench with a light loop band around both forefeet; one foot anchors the band while the other rotates outward against the resistance. Keep the heel down and move only at the ankle to train the lateral lower-leg muscles.

How do you perform this exercise?

  1. Sit tall on a bench or chair with knees bent ~90° and both feet flat, hip‑width apart.
  2. Loop a small resistance band around the forefeet; keep the non‑working foot still to act as the anchor.
  3. Brace your core, keep the working heel planted and shin vertical.
  4. Rotate the working foot outward (eversion/external rotation), leading with the little toe; do not let the knee or hip twist.
  5. Pause briefly at end range without pain, feeling the outer lower leg engage.
  6. Return slowly to neutral under control; avoid the band snapping back.
  7. Complete reps, then switch sides; keep movements small, smooth, and pain‑free.

Which other muscles are involved?

Peroneus longus, Peroneus brevis, Peroneus tertius, Extensor digitorum longus.

How do you log your sets?

How do you track progressive overload?

Source: ExerciseDB catalogue and demonstration. Related movements are options to compare, not equivalent loads or a prescribed progression.
